So in the last week or so, I have become suddenly comfortable with the idea that I will probably have to move out of state to use my law degree. There are positions I have applied for in state, but at this point, I have received no response or polite rejections on almost all of them. Those positions currently listed are for what the legal industry calls "later associate transfers", or basically, semi-experienced attorneys who simply want to move to a new firm. Very few if any firms are advertising for new associates/attorneys. Conversely, there are two public defender positions open in a neighboring state, 6-8 in a state where a friend lives, and a position with my cousin's firm in Colorado that is mine for the asking, so he says. So I far, I have put in one application for the neighboring state, and I am looking into the other two.
In the immediate job needs, I am looking for a third job to replace the first job. I haven't had a shift with that position (at the lake) in more than 2 weeks, and while the second job pays okay, it pays every two weeks with a week lag for processing, and its barely making the rent and bills, but not gas and groceries. Therefore, I am going to have to find something else as a stop gap. The scary thing is, the second job is a holidays only gig, so come January 1, the whole process (assuming no legal job manifests) starts over again.
Health
The lump on my throat is almost entirely gone. The ucky part is, my hormones are still a mess, making the whole job hunt none the easier or less stressful. Basically, I have many of the hormonal side effects of a pregnancy, but no bundle of joy at the end. (Just the joy of no longer having random crying jags.
I have also had really rotten sinus-throat the past week (since the Friday Morning), but have managed to work through it with ibuprofen and chloraseptic.
So that's it in a nutshell right now. The holidays are kinda bleak, but as people keep telling me (with maddening regularity) something has to have a breakthrough soon. I hope they are right.
