Holy Crap, Rebecca Soni. That was just beautiful. Beautiful. A silver earlier and now a gold. And by almost 2 seconds over Jones. Not bad for someone in their first games. That really makes me wanna start lap-swimming again.
Too bad for Aaron Peirsol, but nice job Ryan Lochte. Peirsol hadn't lost this race in 7 years of world competition, but I like to think he'd be excited for Lochte getting his individual gold. Lochte gets a lost in his relays swimming with some other guy from the US team whose getting lots of press. Mind you, he now swimming against that guy (Michael Phelps) 26 minuted.
Hmm, anyone ever heard of Dolfin team suits? My current suit is a two-piece, which isn't really conducive to lap swimming.
Unrelatedly, or relatedly, we had one of our recent hires choke tonight at work. As in, not really function as a server, or seem to give a damn. I basically worked one whole table for him (took the drink order, did the specials for him, ran bread when he forgot it, refilled drinks, made his change for him...).
OMG, Kirsty Coventry's story is heartbreaking. They just talked to her about what it was like to win the first medal for Zimbabwae. If you aren't familiar, democratic elections essentially broke down this year under intimidation from the ruling government of
Robert Mugabe. The inflation in that country is something like 2,200,000%. It is rumored that the army is now usurping power from Mugabe and turning it into a military junta. I hate to see the US come in less than first, but I like to see her do well. It was like seeing Park from South Korea get his gold after his mortifying DQ in the Athens games in his one event.
Good job to American Biesel and Hoelzer on making the finals of the 200 Back (I loved back stroke. It was always my favorite.). And Coventry, who placed the best semis time.
So they are profiling Michael Phelp's physical characteristics, and what it seems to come down to is that he is fast like a freak (because he has weird proportions, huge feat and hands, and his wacky fast heartbeat).
So Phelps and Lochte are getting ready to duke it out for the 200 IM. Phelps is out front, but Lochte is hanging to some extent and Cheh from the Czechs are with hi....never mind. You know, at some point, watching him win everything, gets kinda boring. I like the guy. I am impressed at what he does. But, well, there's no down to the wire like we saw in the 400 Free Relay (**Aside...I heart Jason Lezak in a I am in a committed relationship kinda way***).
Okay, tired from work. Heading to bed. Night everyone.
