Hi! Won't be using this much. Just backing up an old LJ.

Somewhere, on Facebook, recently, there were a group of SCA artisans talking, and discussion turned to research and documentation, and how for some very talented artisans, these weren't skills they come pre-set with.  And someone said "You know, someone should teach classes on that."

To which I replied: I do.  I have actually taught Intro to Research and Intro to Documentation probably 8-12 times in the last 4 years.  Across 3 kingdoms.  I have hand outs.  We play with resources.  I have done it roundtable style and lecture style.  I have tried everything by charades.  And inevitably, I am scheduled opposite something with fire.  Or knives.  Or power tools.  And I get one or two people.  Maybe.  Sometimes I wait 15 minutes, then head back to the commons area because no one shows up.

So, I am trying it again this weekend, and then if turn out is still subpar, I will probably retire it as a live class and look at maybe developing something YouTube-able instead.

I got home last night feeling tired and a little achey.  Cleaned some, made dinner, and then was just DONE.  So I went upstairs, put on pajamas, and crashed out.  I was asleep by 21:30.

Got up at 6:30. Still tired, vaguely achey, didn't feel great.  Came into work because I thought my part time admin was out today (it's tomorrow).

Had the following conversation via IM with the hubband:

ME: "Blargh, brians.

Him: "Brians?"

ME: "I have none, today"

Him: "Did you mean brains?"

ME: "Yes."

Him: "Cuz I wondered why you needed Brian's."

ME: "Is it 5:00 yet?"

Him: "It is somewhere."

Me: "Do you know where? ROME."

Apparently, Italy has ruined me for real life.

Shit just got real, yo...
So, the husband is winging his way somewhere south of Iceland, at the moment, towards Rome, and I begin my three week stint of living bachelorette style.
So far, this exciting adventure has been marked by making two dozen mini pot pies (one dozen chicken traditional, one dozen taco) which I will eat off of for the next week or so, followed by a bath, dishes, and cleaning the cat boxes…
So, you know, big pimping or something…

Until I see how it comes out:
Post Thanksgiving Spaetzel Mac and Cheese

8oz cooked long noodle Spaetzel (Aldi Style) or Amish Homestyle Noodles
4 oz Goat Cheese crumbled
4 oz Cabot Vermont Sharp Cheddar shredded
Cream Sauce (4 tbs butter, 2 tbs flour, 1/4 cup whipping cream, 1/4 cup half and half)
1/4 c medium dry white table wine
1 tsp black pepper
1tsb garlic powder

Preheat Oven to 350 F.  Grease a medium sized oven casserole dish.  On the stove, melt the butter for the Cream Sauce.  Add the flour and whisk to combine.  Add the whipping cream and about half of the half and half.  Keep on warm heat, stirring occasionally.

Layer 1/3 noodles into dish.  Top with 1/3 of each cheese, then drizzle over 1/3 of the Cream Sauce.  Repeat two more times.  One top, sprinkle all the spices.  Drizzle with the table wine.

Bake at 350 for approximately 20 minutes or until everything is warm and bubbly.

This happened:
A sheaf of parchment, a bolt of fine cloth, fresh meats and vegetables, all of these are good things. But they are better once a craftsman has plied their skills upon them, creating beautiful charters, fine clothes and delicious repasts for all to enjoy.
The Order of the Silver Hammer was created to nurture and reward those who by skill in the sciences enrich the Kingdom of Calontir and who go beyond creation to teach others, so that such skills should not be forgotten and pass beyond the reach of man.
The Order has spoken, and We answer with this charter advancing Aline Swynbroke to the rank, estate and dignity of Companion of the Order of the Silver Hammer, for the betterment of Our realm in grateful thanks for her talents so freely shared.
This so done and given in the Shire March of the Grimfells on the 21st day of September, Anno Domine two thousand and twelve, being Anno Societatis forty-seven.

So, I had a car wreck this morning.  I am fine.  The other woman is fine.  Her car is drivable, mine is not.  Technically my fault.  There is a T intersection near my house.  I was on the perpendicular section of road.  The cross bar of the t has a hill on my right.  I head checked, committed, and pulled out....right as a woman came over the hill.  So technically my fault (I did get ticketed for failure to yield....she got ticketed for failure to have insurance).

So, that sucked.  After the adrenaline spike wore off and the hubband got there, I got weepy (I LOVE my car).  Insurance has been called, car towed to wrecker lot, adjuster supposed to call me back.  I have a rental for the weekend, so we will pick that up in about 45 minutes.

Can I just have a do-over this week.

So I got a Facebook Message today from one of my parents (they share my dad's account, so no telling which one), asking me for a Pecan Pie Recipe.

This is particularly fascinating, given that I abhor Pecan Pie.  Like, I wouldn't eat it if there were only two foods left on earth, and the other one was offal based.

I can only assume I got asked because my Google-Fu is much stronger than theirs.

* Damn, Kevin McKidd, you really need to star in a musical.  Any musical. Or record an album.  Just sing more.

* Three Musketeers 3D was a great movie.  I don't understand the critical pan.  Great effects, great acting, stayed as true to the plot of the book as any of them ever do (Constance is a much luckier girl in the films, I am just saying).  Also, in this version, Porthos is totally the Great^17 grandson of Titus Pullo, and that was completely awesome.  And Luke Evans.  Damn.  Sexiest. Aramis. Ever.

*Still liking the job.  Still wish I had a little more direction, though.

* SCA is busy busy busy.  Need to make a list and prioritize.  May do 2 feasts next year.

* Despite TWOP telling me otherwise, I am enjoying the hell out of both "Once Upon A Time" and "Grimm" and will gladly watch both.

Peter and I had a couples photo shoot this past weekend, and it was fabulous.  We just got the shots today, and I am thrilled.  If you want to see them, go to:

So I came home sick from work today, to find a letter from my law school in my mailbox.  It was a standard Alumni mailing, talking about how smart the new class was, and the awards the students had been getting, and the faculty achievements, etc, etc, etc.   Sent from the new Dean's office, and signed with his auto-pen.  All very standard.  Except how it was addressed.  The envelope and the letter were addressed to "Mr. and Ms. Peter von Groote" and the Salutation was "Dear Peter and Rebecca."

Now, this would be correct if a) this was still 1950 and I was a very early female attorney or b) Peter and I were both graduates.  Because while I am Mrs. Peter von Groote, I am, in the alumni system, Rebecca L.W. von Groote, JD, M.Ed.  Peter is not in the system as an alumni at all, because while we will have two alma maters in common when he gets his masters, OU is not among them.

I suppose I am bothered that rather than use my preferred form of address, they are opting to use an address form and style that has been considered high formal since my grandmother was still alive.  And not to be a raging feminist about it, because I will be the first to admit I couldn't have gotten through law school without the love and support of my now husband, but at the end of the day, it was my accomplishment.  To address things to me first would be as offensive for him to receive things from OSU relating to his degree addressed to "Ms. and Mr. Williams" and have the salutation as "Dear Rebecca and Peter".

I will actually be at the law school this weekend for a clinic event, and I am considering whether or not to say anything.  Hmmm....

And would like to spare me a vote, I have entered a recipe contest to win a trip to Hawaii.  Since the Hubband and I never took a proper honeymoon, this would be a lovely surprise.
