Disclaimer: This is not intended to offend my right wing friends. You have to know Anne LaMott is a bit of a hippy and while I agree with her, I don't require my friends to.

I have to share this great story from Anne LaMott, one of the few modern writers on faith I actually like (She describes herself as a left-wing Christian). She, while writing this new book on faith, woke up one morning in the early days of the Iraq war despondent over the war and the environment and the Bill of Rights, and wondered if she had lost faith in God. This is what she says about it:

"But then- a small miracle- I started to believe in George Bush. I really did: I my terror; I wondered
whether maybe he was smarter than we think he is, and had grasped classified intelligence and nuance in a
way that was well above my own understanding or that of our era's most brilliant thinkers.
"Then I thouht: What- George BUSH??!! And relief washed over me like a gentle suf, because beliving in
George Bush was so ludicrous that believing in God seems almost rational."
