So I have this thing about fools....

I find them fascinating and I kinda wish more people did foolish personas in the SCA.   (I blame Alan Gordon's jester mysteries for this).  Anyways, I found this manuscript today, and I really want to find someone to put in this outfit.

It's a tough gig. Puck was a FABULOUS fool. But we had to watch him carefully to make sure that the little kids didn't attack and hurt him (they thought he was a toy?) And of course, you can't fight back against a bunch of 6 year olds. And we had to watch that none of the "big" men didn't hurt him.

I was once fighting my way through a crowd at court to get to Puck to keep a knight from throwing him in a lake in mid-winter (on a primitive site) when Master Blackfox, bless his memory, stood up and talked the angry knight down by trading him something for Puck. Blackfox (a huge man) then slung Puck over his shoulder and walked out of court carrying him. It was all funny-- except you could never be sure that the knight wasn't actually going to pitch him into freezing water.

Once he put the jester outfit on, the normal rules for behavior seemed to go out the window. If you put someone in the suit, you have to watch out for them. :-)

That would indeed by a cool entry.

If only you could get a juggler to stand there in the costume and perform on the table as your entry. Now THAT's got "table appeal!" :-)

There was a guy in B3R who did a really awesome fool... His name was Geoffrey.
And he did actually have the costume as well. :-)
