Somewhere, on Facebook, recently, there were a group of SCA artisans talking, and discussion turned to research and documentation, and how for some very talented artisans, these weren't skills they come pre-set with. And someone said "You know, someone should teach classes on that."
To which I replied: I do. I have actually taught Intro to Research and Intro to Documentation probably 8-12 times in the last 4 years. Across 3 kingdoms. I have hand outs. We play with resources. I have done it roundtable style and lecture style. I have tried everything by charades. And inevitably, I am scheduled opposite something with fire. Or knives. Or power tools. And I get one or two people. Maybe. Sometimes I wait 15 minutes, then head back to the commons area because no one shows up.
So, I am trying it again this weekend, and then if turn out is still subpar, I will probably retire it as a live class and look at maybe developing something YouTube-able instead.
